Development Officer

The Florida Association of Planned Parenthood Affiliates/Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates (FAPPA) is the state public policy office representing Florida’s six Planned Parenthood affiliates.  FAPPA works to advance public policy in areas of reproductive health care, family planning and medically-accurate sex education in order to make comprehensive reproductive health care available to all.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing of all aspects of the fund development program, including direct mail, major gifts, foundation and corporate solicitations, fundraising events, planned giving, and grant writing. Works with Executive Director and Planned Parenthood affiliate development staff to create an annual fundraising plan and to coordinate communications messages.   Residency in the Sarasota area not mandatory.

PRINCIPLE REPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinates and implements major gift program, including research and cultivation of prospects, preparation for and scheduling of solicitations and appropriate follow-up.
• Establishes and oversees direct mail program, including solicitations and database management.
• Works with Executive Director, affiliate development staff, and affiliate CEOs to ensure that appropriate solicitations of major donors and prospects occur.
• Develops annual plan and budget which specifically identifies target populations, goals, measurable objectives (including objectives for generating income), a time frame and an evaluation plan.
• Prepare monthly reports for the Executive Director evaluating goals, strategies and bench marks reached. Prepare and distribute quarterly reports to Board of Directors and donors that highlight affiliate success and goals of FAPPA’s fundraising efforts.
• Research, coordinate and submit grants that will build the financial health of FAPPA and are in line with FAPPA’s existing strategic plan.
• Develop fundraising programs specific to FAPPA’s strategic plan and goals.
• Coordinates use of fundraising volunteers.
• Responsible for handling donations, including cash. Ensures accurate and timely record-keeping, list maintenance and gift acknowledgment. 
• Maintains relationships with the Development Department of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and development professionals at other Planned Parenthood affiliates.  Represents FAPPA in national and regional development policy and program implementation.
• Maintains and expands knowledge and skills by attending in-service programs, continuing education seminars, workshops, and by utilizing directed reading designed to promote professional growth.
• Interprets philosophy, functions, goals and services of Planned Parenthood to clients, donors and the community.
• Develops and maintains on-going contact with other community and social organizations across the state as the representative of FAPPA when appropriate.
• Previews, selects and maintains up-to-date resource materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Proven track record in successful grant writing with significant responsibilities working with an established fundraising program.
• Ability to innovate and find creative and diplomatic solutions and approaches to multi-level organizational fundraising.
• Experience working in the reproductive rights and/or political community preferred. Knowledge of 501(c)3, 501(c)4 and CCE legal designations preferred.

Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in development, fundraising or related area.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
• Must be computer trained with knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office/Word, the Internet, and DonorPerfect.
