Contraception education now part of sex ed policy in Collier County schools

Contraception education is now officially part of Collier County School District’s sex education policy.

The Collier County School Board approved changes to the district’s health education policy by a 3-2 vote Thursday night. Board members Pat Carroll and Steve Donovan dissented.

Planned Parenthood customers across north Florida are getting a chance at lower-priced birth control, thanks to a recent merger.
“Birth control and family planning are basic health care,” said Staci Fox, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of North Florida, Inc. “We are always working to make reproductive health care more accessible to men, women and teens.”

The lower prices were made feasible thanks to the joining of Planned Parenthood of Northeast Florida and Planned Parenthood of North Central Florida. The newly created Planned Parenthood of North Florida, or PPNF, now serves 25 counties across Florida, including Leon County and the Tallahassee area.

Cheaper Birth Control Returns

Everything that was tied up in the previous presidential administration is quickly coming undone. Congress passed a provision in its massive omnibus spending bill that allows pharmaceutical companies to reinstate discounts on birth control pills and other hormonal contraceptives that they had previously offered to family planning clinics and college campus health clinics.

Representative Jimmy Patronis (R-6), chair of the Health Care Regulation Policy Committee, gave a hearing to HB 983, yet has not given a hearing to the Prevention First Act (HB 129)!
