In Her Own Words...
I am a native of Orlando and I have spent most of my life in this
community. I graduated from Lake Mary High School and then attended Syracuse University, where I received a bachelor's degree in Social Work. While earning my degree, I became involved with the reproductive rights movement. I was inspired when I attended a rally in Washington, D.C. It was then that I realized that I need to stand up for my beliefs and that no one will stand up for me better than me.
Upon graduating from college, I returned to Central Florida and I am very excited to be a volunteer at Planned Parenthood in Orlando. This organization stands for access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care services and is a place where community members can receive health services in a respectful manner. Whether somebody enters our health center for an annual checkup, STD testing and treatment, or contraceptives, each client is given the information to make his or her own decisions.
Education is very important to me. I believe sex education is a vital part of keeping people healthy. Planned Parenthood informs the public about many of the topics that people are not aware of, such as STIs, birth control methods, and the human body. I believe strongly that Planned Parenthood is a vital contributor to our community through its education and professional training programs.
As a volunteer, I have helped with administrative tasks throughout the office and prepared materials and scripts for educational lectures and tabling events. In January I hope to be part of the Options Counseling program as well as answering the phones for the informational hotline.
