Statement by Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on Proposed Abortion Language in the Senate Manager's Amendment:

"Planned Parenthood strongly opposes the new abortion language offered by Senator Ben Nelson in the manager's amendment. Last week, the Senate rejected harsh restrictions on abortion coverage, and it is a sad day when women's health is traded away for one vote.

We called for a day of action to stop the Stupak abortion ban and that's exactly what we got! Like me, hundreds of activists from across the country flooded the U.S. Capitol today with one mission in mind -- to pass health care reform and to ensure that the anti-choice abortion ban, known as the Stupak amendment, is not part of the health care reform bill.

Planned Parenthood offers economical options

Planned Parenthood customers across north Florida are getting a chance at lower-priced birth control, thanks to a recent merger.
“Birth control and family planning are basic health care,” said Staci Fox, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of North Florida, Inc. “We are always working to make reproductive health care more accessible to men, women and teens.”

The lower prices were made feasible thanks to the joining of Planned Parenthood of Northeast Florida and Planned Parenthood of North Central Florida. The newly created Planned Parenthood of North Florida, or PPNF, now serves 25 counties across Florida, including Leon County and the Tallahassee area.

Lately, there have been many convenings to discuss the special arena of "women's health care." At a meeting at the White House a couple of weeks ago, a participant said she would love to see the day when men had to have special meetings about their health care needs. But we aren't there yet. The fact that women reproduce and, therefore, have different types of health care needs makes some folks on Capitol Hill go pale and start to sweat.
